To Live And Die In LA

| | Comments (22)

Los Angeles is the city that the world watches to detect the shape of the future. There are more artists,
writers, filmmakers, actors, dancers, and musicians living and working in LA than in any other city, in
any other time in the history of civilization. Los Angeles' ethnic diversity is unparalleled, it serves as a
microcosm of the global economy and worldwide trends in immigration.

To appreciate LA you need a prying eye, we fell in love through a series of explorations that led us to
unique events and surprises. LA has taught us to pay attention to details. We invite you to uncover the
greatness of LA through these image portals. Go ahead, click on it.

As a native Angeleno with a great affection for his hometown, but who has spent all of his adult life in places like Portland and New England where LA-bashing is de rigeur, I appreciate your love note to the world's most misunderstood city.

hey kev... im sorry you don't like am ap (we actually feel very wishy-washy about a lot of their tactics and dov charney generally makes our skin crawl)but we should clarify some things. I'm assuming what you are referring to with your comment is the incident that was all over the media a few years ago where some AmAp employees called the company out for unfair procedures and called for unionization. If you remember the media coverage, other company employees (including garment workers) were the ones who protested against union formation. After the case was investigated AmAp even formally established that they would not participate in any anti-union agenda.

As for Dov Charney (i'm glad you bought him up)...while it is not cool to throw around the rape card where it is unwarranted, sexual harassment IS a really serious problem and Dov Charney is captain sexual harassment.

I our little opinion AmAp is not the model...they are only the minimum. They should be where the bar is set and it is balls that they are likely the most ethical large garment company operating in the US today. We just like the challenge they bring to the table! Frankly, we would rather shop at a thrift store any day, but then again LA doesn't take the cake on thrift stores (wink).

Thanks so much for posting your concerns (and please respond if you have news that we never read about!!)...we really love the idea of this making conversation! That's what it's all about yo.

Thanks for calling me out, Matthew. It's not that I didn't like your post; the post was perfectly fine. It's just that I thought team G-Rad's post was superior in a number of relatively obvious respects, and so it was puzzling to me that a group of judges who read a lot of blogs would have decided that yours was better.

Apparently, what I thought was a silly, throw-away comment has offended people. I feel badly about that and I apologize for expressing my opinion in a way that was disrespectful of other people's hard work. I have to say that appreciate the kindness of people on this site, even if I inadvertently failed to live up to it. Most places in the bloggosphere, people just mercilessly rake things they don't like over the coals without the merest thought of who they might offend, but this group of people seems very sensitive to the feelings of others, which makes it a more enjoyable place to be. Sorry for speaking before thinking and bringing people down. ;)
